Debt Collector Contact Log Canada: Organize What Happened

Create a structured record of collection calls, messages, workplace contact, threats, and evidence. The tool does not decide whether conduct was illegal or estimate damages.

Question 1 of 12 8%

How many times per day do collectors contact you?

Contact frequency is context-specific. Record every call and message rather than treating a number as an automatic legal threshold.

This tool creates a contact and evidence summary. It does not decide whether conduct was illegal, calculate damages, predict a settlement, or label a message as a criminal offence. Collection rules depend on the province, the creditor, the collector’s licence, the communication, and the facts around each contact.

Record the facts

Save call logs, voicemails, messages, letters, caller names, agency details, dates, times, phone numbers, workplace or third-party contact, and any request you made to change communication. Keep the original evidence and a separate written timeline.

Use the right complaint path

Start with the regulator named in the collector’s notice or your provincial consumer-protection office. A federally regulated bank may have a separate complaint process. Privacy questions may belong with the applicable privacy commissioner. The right body depends on who contacted you and what happened.

For an Ontario example, the official collection-agency guide explains contact-frequency, timing, and recording-related requirements. Other provinces require their own source review.

If you received a Statement of Claim, garnishment order, bank-freeze notice, or CRA Requirement to Pay, use the notice triage guide and follow the document’s deadline. This page is general information, not legal advice.
